2011 ICAST Best of Show --  Freshwater Rod

Loomis' newest rods are designed form the ground up to be some of the most capable and comfortable rods on the market. The 18-rod series has just about every technique covered, sometimes in multiple instances.

2011 ICAST Best of Show

Hard Lure

Pure Fishing, Inc.: Sebile D&S Crank

The D&S Crank was designed with conservation in mind: conservation of your lure and conservation of the resource -- bass. Armed with a single hook, the D&S Crank is ideal for pulling through thick cover that would snag treble hooks. Plus, when you do hook up with a bass, release is safe and easy for both bass and angler.

Tackle Management
Plano: Hydro-Flo Tackle Bag

Part of Plano’s Guide Series, the Hydro-Flo Tackle Bag features a clever system that allows water to flow right through the back instead of collecting and damaging contents. The base is impact-resistant with non-skid rubber to keep the bag from sliding around the boat. The 4674 model includes five 3700 StowAway utility boxes and two 3600 size boxes as well as various side pockets and pouches.

The Best 2011 ICAST: Reels

Daiwa: Magforce 3D

Daiwa's top-of-the-line baitcaster is this hot-rod reel. The 3D stands for the three modes the reel is capable of: All Around, Max Brake and Long Cast. When a switch on the bottom of the reel is flipped, the reel automatically adjusts itself, allowing you to make the most efficient cast possible. Each mode can be further tuned for the best casting experience possible.

Quantum: EXO PT

This new reel touts “Metal Where It Matters” … which makes it one of the lightest on the market (5.9 ounces).

Daiwa: PX Type R

This speedster is Daiwa's newest addition to its baitcasting line. It's a svelte 5.3 ounces, has a 6.8:1 gear ratio, 10 ball bearings and a high-tech Magforce Z anti-backlash system. It's available in both right- and left-hand retrieve and has a max drag of 11 pounds.

Shimano: Curado G

With four Shimano SUS bearings and an A-RB (anti-rust) roller bearing, the new Curado G reels weigh 6.9 ounces and each will handle 155 yards of 10-pound test mono or 120 yards of 50-pound PowerPro braid. The Curado 200G7 and 201G7, with 7.1:1 gear ratios, will retrieve 30-inches of line per crank; the Curado 200G6 and 201G6, with 6.5:1 gear ratios, will pull in 27-inches of line per crank; while the Curado 200G5 winds in 23-inches of line per crank with its 5.5:1 gear ratio.

Pinnacle Fishing: Tournament Class Optimus XiHS Hand Tuned Baitcast Reel

Pinnacle is taking trial and error out of the baitcast equation by hand tuning each Optimus XiHS reel before it leaves the facility.

Ardent: Edge

Ardent's Edge features new technology designed to improve the drag system on its baitcast reels. Drag Tracking Technology allows the levelwind on the reel to track parallel with the line location on the spool as line peels off in drag mode. On other reels, the levelwind is stationary and produces sharp line angles and variances in drag pressure that may cause lines to break.

Lew’s: Tournament MG

Tournament MG Series is the newest addition to the Lew’s baitcast reel family. This series has a one-piece die-cast aluminum frame, 10 double-shielded stainless steel bearings, graphite side covers and a longer than ordinary "power crank" handle. The MG comes in four models, including one left-handed version.
